5. Blast Resistant Door
This door was not installed by the Japanese when the military command center was built. Presumably the KMT government added it after it took over management.
Measuring approximately 4cm, the front half of the thick and heavy door panel is made of iron while the back half is reinforced concrete. Rumored to be a blast resistant door for the ammunition depot, it was originally installed on the back door of the gift shop, and today you can still discern the marks left from its removal. The door was torn down during restoration work to the garden in 2003 and was handed over to Mr. Kan Hsuen-lung, master of relic restoration. He was commissioned to construct a simple exhibit in the style of the Japanese shrine to match the Japanese-style landscaping in the garden.
